ATS Self-Study Report - Mary Ellen Zabehaylo, ATS Coordinator
St. Peter’s Seminary self study report has been reaffirmed for accreditation for a period of ten years.
The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada is the Commission on Accrediting theological schools. Accreditation is a primary means of quality assurance in higher education and a significant resource for quality improvement. Accreditation is associated with peer judgments about quality and has been the work of nongovernmental accrediting agencies. The purpose of the Commission is "to contribute to the enhancement and improvement of theological education through accreditation.” The report touches on all areas of program, student achievement, assessment, teaching strategies, faculty qualifications, formation, infrastructure and any other activities alluded to in the Mission Statement.
The evaluation team acknowledged the good work being accomplished at St. Peter’s Seminary. Special mention was made of the strong commitment to the preparation of pastoral leadership, lay ecclesial leadership formation and positive relationship with King’s University College and Western University.
A self study report was the result of many committees organized to focus and investigate collaboratively over eighteen months. Information derived through surveys and personal interviews was representative of the diverse publics involved in the process i.e. Board Members, Administrators, Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni, School Board Administrators and Community Volunteers.
This is the fourth ATS evaluation for St. Peter’s Seminary, the first was in 1985 when we received Associate membership followed by the second one in 1990 when we were granted full accreditation. This accreditation was very important as it provided St. Peter’s the status to grant academic degrees through Western University.
The next ATS review is in the Fall of 2022.
ATS Process Prayer
Based on a prayer by St. Thomas Aquinas
Grant us, O Lord our God,
minds to know you,
hearts to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
conduct pleasing to you,
faithful perseverance in waiting for you,
and a hope of finally embracing you.
Loving God, grant to us
during this process of self-study and reflection
hearts that discern your call:
to serve the needs of students and our community
for a living and vibrant faith
and for education that instructs, inspires, and liberates
with the Good News of your love
and your invitation to unending abundant life in your Kingdom.
May your Holy Spirit guide us and bind us more closely together
as we journey in this process of discovery
so that our programs of education and formation
may be more meaningful and more fully conformed to your will.
We make our prayer in the name of Jesus your Son,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.
