Welcome

A Legacy of Faith and Formation

Forming Faithful Leaders for Today’s Church and Tomorrow’s World

St. Peter’s Seminary is the Roman Catholic seminary of the Diocese of London, Ontario – the oldest English-speaking diocesan seminary in Canada still in operation. For over a century, we have been dedicated to forming men for the ministerial priesthood through rigorous academic study, spiritual formation, and community life.

An accredited member of the Association of Theological Schools (A.T.S.), St. Peter’s offers graduate theological degrees for both seminarians and lay students, including the Master of Divinity, Master of Divinity – Advanced, and Master of Theological Studies.

Through our academic affiliation with King’s University College at Western University, we also offer undergraduate degrees in philosophy, providing essential preparation for those entering theological studies and vocational discernment.

ABOUT St. Peter's Seminary

Serving the Ongoing Needs of Ministry

St. Peter’s Seminary also offers dedicated support for those actively engaged in ministry. Through the St. Peter’s Institute for Ongoing Formation, we provide continuing education and formation opportunities for clergy, permanent diaconate candidates, lay ecclesial ministers, and parish staff.

These programs are designed to foster spiritual growth, strengthen pastoral skills, and help those in ministry respond faithfully and effectively to the needs of their communities.

Our LEGACY

Over a Century of Faithful Formation and Impact

  • One of only six English-speaking Roman Catholic seminaries in Canada, St. Peter’s has faithfully served the Church since 1912.

  • More than 1,000 priests have been formed here, including 26 bishops who have gone on to serve across Canada and beyond.

  • We are a fully accredited theological school, affiliated with Western University through King’s University College, offering academic excellence grounded in faith.

  • Our faculty includes recognized scholars and dedicated pastors, whose teaching and ministry impact both the seminary and the wider Church.

  • The Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas, with its 84 hand-carved wooden angels, stands as a sacred and architectural landmark.

  • Our A.P. Mahoney Library is renowned for its theological resources, supporting students, clergy, and researchers alike.

Our Mission Statement

Forming Hearts, Shaping Servants: The Mission of St. Peter’s

Inspired by the love of God, St. Peter’s Seminary serves the Church in Canada and beyond as the Roman Catholic Seminary of the Diocese of London, providing an integrated program of spiritual, human, intellectual and pastoral formation and discernment for those preparing for priestly ministry according to the heart of Christ. The Seminary also provides an integrated program for those preparing for the permanent diaconate and lay ministry, and for those seeking to enrich their faith education.

Institutional Scope

Forming Leaders for the Church Across Canada and Beyond

In admitting candidates to the program of priestly formation, the Seminary accepts candidates from dioceses and religious communities across Canada. While no American dioceses are represented among the student body at present, the Seminary has a long list of graduates from various locations in the United States. Seminarian applicants must be sponsored by the bishop of their diocese or by the Superior of their religious community.

The Seminary also provides an opportunity for education in theology and philosophy to both men and women, religious and lay. The laity play an integral role and form part of the wider Seminary community, thus representing the fullness of the Church within the Seminary. A distinct formation program exists to foster the total growth of lay candidates for ministry in the Church.
